Factbox: Trump impeachment backed by 40% of U.S. House Democrats

(Reuters) – Ninety-five Democratic lawmakers in the 435-member U.S. House of Representatives have said they support starting impeachment proceedings against Republican President Donald Trump.

Several more lawmakers joined the ranks of those wanting to launch the impeachment process after congressional testimony on Wednesday by former U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who investigated Trump and the Russians who interfered in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump’s candidacy.

More than 40% of the 235 Democrats in the House now favor initiating an impeachment probe, including representatives from 30 states. The largest group comes from California, where 20 of 46 Democratic representatives are in support.
