Damaging monuments now punishable, President signs order

US President Donald Trump (P)

NEW YORK: President Trump has signed an executive order to prosecute those who damage national monuments, making it a punishable offence with up to 10 years in jail amid fresh debate over the nation’s racist beginnings.
Meanwhile, the White House said Trump was “incredibly grateful” for the “widespread support” he has got from Indians and Indian-Americans. Deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews was responding to a question on a survey suggesting that over 50% of Indian-Americans are switching over to him in the presidential polls.
